Copper is utilized by essentially every cell and organ; resulting in the formation of important copper-dependent enzymes, including Cytochrome C Oxidase (energy production), SOD (superoxide dismutase)(antioxidation) and lysyl oxidase (cross-linking of elastin and collagen in the skin).
Copper is essential to vital cellular and enzyme processes required for human health, it plays a key role in several of the body’s essential enzyme systems needed for tissue repair, hair growth and other biological responses.
Research has shown that copper, delivered in the form of copper peptides, stimulates many actions.
GHK was originally isolated from human plasma in 1973 by Pickart and Thaler. It is a tripeptide possessing a high affinity for copper ions.

This peptide was first described as a growth factor for a variety of differentiated cells. It  promote wound healing and vascular growth. GHK is a signal and carrier peptide that promotes the synthesis of collagen, elastin, proteoglycan, and glucoglycan, making the skin tight, smooth, and elastic.

In 1985 ,GHK wound repair properties were observed by Maquart et al. In 1999, Maquart et al. concluded that GHK or its Cu complex functioned as an activator of tissue remodeling.

Skin Remodeling is the process that removes proteins and older cells from the skin thus removing scars, lesions, and wrinkles while smoothing the skin.
Skin remodeling is very active in young people but declines rapidly as humans pass age 20.
Increasing skin remodeling is the key to producing a biologically younger skin.

GHK also has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-aging properties
