Ellagic acid is found in a variety of plants and fruits such as blackberry, blueberry, pomegranate, etc. As a polyphenol, it’s a well-known whitening principal. It can inhibits the activity of tyrosinase and the production of melanin. The product is extracted from Rhus chinensis Mill. & Caesalpinia spinosa Kuntze.
Ellagic acid can inhibit the activity of tyrosinase and thus block the production of melanin.
Ellagic acid is an effective antioxidant. It can inhibit the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and scavenge free radicals.
Researches show that ellagic acid and its derivatives can increase the level of Collagen VII in Keratinocytes and fibroblasts and therefore strengthen the dermal-epidermal junction. As a result, ellagic acid brings anti-wrinkles, firming, texture improvement, anti-aging effects. Researches also show that ellagic acid can effectively promote the regeneration of the elastic fibers and alleviate skin damages caused by long-term or frequent UV radiation and slow down photoaging.
