The Melon Extract is a natural product derived from Cucumis melo fruit, known for its potent anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. It is available in various forms, including Melon Extract-GNS, Melon Extract(GOL)-RSPO, and Melon Extract-PG, and its INCI name is Cucumis Melo (Melon) Fruit Extract.

Melons, such as honeydew, casaba, and cantaloupe, belong to the Cucumis melo species and come in two main types: summer melons like muskmelon or cantaloupe, and winter melons like honeydew. These fruits are characterized by their hard, rough rinds and watery, sweet flesh, which ranges from pale green to orange in color. They are rich in vitamin A and contain powerful anti-oxidant flavonoids, including β-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, and cryptoxanthin. In addition to these nutrients, the melon peel is also high in essential minerals such as calcium, potassium, and magnesium. It contains various phenolic compounds like gallic acid, chlorogenic acid, isovanillic acid, luteolin-7-glycoside, apigenin-7-glycoside, and coumaric acid.

Scientific studies have demonstrated that the melon extract offers significant anti-oxidant properties, as evidenced by the inhibition of Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) activity. It also shows strong anti-inflammatory effects by reducing the production of Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-α) in macrophages. The recommended dosage for incorporating the extract into formulations is 1-3%, and it should be added when the formulation temperature is below 55°C, preferably after the cooling process. For optimal storage, the extract should be kept in a dry area at room temperature, avoiding direct light or UV exposure.
