Product Overview
Sangre de Grado (“Dragon’s Blood” in English) resin is an integral part of the traditional medicine used by tribes throughout the Peruvian Amazon. In traditional herbal medicine it is used topically for healing skin wounds or insect bites. It is so safe that it can be taken internally for ulcers, upset stomach and treatment of infections. Cosmetically, it can be used for anti-aging, and wrinkle reduction. Due it’s powerful antimicrobial properties it is ideal for treating acne and skin infections. Dragon’s Blood is also an ideal anti-inflammatory agent. The international medical community recognizes Dragon’s Blood efficacy in treating variety of ailments and conditions.
Harvest
Dragon’s Blood trees are a majestic part of the forest canopy in the Amazon Rainforest. They grow up to from 35 meters in height. The tree is covered by flat, patterned bark and has large bright-green leaves and unique, greenish-white flowers on long stalks. When the bark of the tree is cut it releases a dark latex. This resin is then carefully collected and filtered. Dragon’s Blood trees grow very well in sunny areas, while most other canopy trees require shade to grow. Eco Ola is proud to use Dragon’s Blood to help restore degraded lands in the Amazon by using it as a pioneer species. Our planting program ensures a sustainable supply of Dragon’s Blood.
Applications
Dragon’s Blood has strong antifungal, antiseptic, antiviral, and antihaemorrhagic properties making it ideal for inclusion in cosmetic and therapeutic formulas. One special use of Dragon’s Blood is for the treatment of nappy rash. It not only treats the infection but reduces the swelling and irritation as well. It is gentle enough for a baby’s skin yet safe enough to be taken internally. Its anti-microbial properties combined with being a strong astringent makes it one of the best ingredients available for treating acne and oily skin. In general, it supports the body’s tissue repair mechanisms and is a general tonic.
