Sebodulin™ is the latest autophagy-activating peptide in Incospharm’s portfolio, specifically designed to restore the skins hydrolipid film and tackle acne.
Incospharm found out that autophagy is very important in sebocytes in the sebaceous glands and making sebum. They also discovered that it influences inflammation and skin barrier functions – all things which are major factors related to acne formation.
Acne is one of the most common skin conditions that can impact the quality of life. The problem with traditional acne treatments is that they have a lot of drawbacks. For example, the reduction of skin lipids is so drastic, the skin becomes dry, or the skin barrier gets damaged. It also can cause irritation, especially in sensitive skin.
Autophagy is an innate cellular protection system. When this was identified researchers found that that the same system influences all living things. Incospharm is dedicated to develop new ingredients mostly based on peptides to find out the autophagy activating ingredients for cosmetic applications. Excessive sebum formation, follicular epithelial barrier dysfunction, and inflammatory responses induced by Cutibacterium acne are major triggering and aggravating factors for acne. While conventional anti-acne ingredients addressing sebum formation usually dry up the skin surface, resulting in skin dryness, Sebodulin™ restores a healthy hydrolipidic film by activation of autophagy in sebocytes.
Sebodulin™ also helps to alleviate the inflammatory responses by C. acne and to improve the skin barrier function.
